Finchproof

Finchproof puts you back in control of your work.

Like bark on a tree, Finchproof wraps your site in a layer that every visitor has to pass through, and that records who pecked at it.

01

AI companies are creating economic value from your data. You deserve a piece of that.

02

AI companies say they will be bound by liability laws. Let's hold them to that.

03

You deserve to know when someone is using your work without your consent.

How it works

Every visitor gets a copy of your page with its own invisible markers. If a marker ever turns up inside an AI model, it points straight back to the visit it came from.

Illustration. Names, markers and the answer are examples, not real findings.

What you get

A record of every AI crawler visit

Who identified themselves as which crawler, what they took, and whether they ignored your robots.txt rules.

Evidence packages built for attorneys

Every record is sealed with a cryptographic fingerprint and timestamped publicly. Anyone can check nothing was changed afterwards, without trusting us.

A dashboard for your sites

See your sites, your markers and any findings in one place, and download evidence whenever you need it.

What Finchproof doesn't do

  • It doesn't block scrapers. It records them, so you have proof instead of suspicion.
  • It can't promise a payout or a lawsuit. It gives you and your attorney evidence to work with.
  • AI models don't memorize everything they see. A marker is likelier to show up when a model has seen it many times.

Questions

Will my readers notice anything?

No. Your pages look and work exactly the same. Markers sit off-screen and are hidden from screen readers, so they don't affect what people see or hear.

What exactly is a marker?

A small, harmless, invented detail, like a made-up name for a painting series, an invented bit of local trivia, or a catalog number. Each one is unique to a single visitor and exists nowhere else, so if it shows up in an AI model, it can only have come from that visit.

Will this hurt my search rankings?

Finchproof checks whether visitors claiming to be Google or Bing really are, and verified search engines get your pages without markers. Your search listings stay as they are.

Does Finchproof block AI crawlers?

No. You stay in charge of what's allowed through your robots.txt file. Finchproof records every crawler that visits and whether it respected those rules, which is often the strongest evidence of all.

How do you know which company took my work?

Every visitor group gets different markers, and every visit is recorded with how the visitor identified itself and where it came from. A marker found in a model points to the visit that received it. We report this carefully: "a client identifying itself as GPTBot," rather than naming a company outright.

Can AI companies filter the markers out?

Some might try. Finchproof uses many styles of marker, varies them for every visitor and changes them monthly, which makes them hard to spot and remove. No method is guaranteed, and we'll tell you plainly what we can and can't detect.

What happens when a marker turns up?

You'll see the finding in your dashboard and can download an evidence package: the matching visit, the exact page that visitor received, and the sealed records with a small program anyone can run to check them. What you do next, whether licensing talks, joining a class action or something else, is up to you and your attorney.

Will the evidence hold up in court?

We can't promise that, and we're not your lawyer. The evidence is built with attorneys' needs in mind: records that can't be quietly changed, public timestamps, and verification that doesn't depend on trusting Finchproof.

What kinds of sites work?

Any site where you control the domain name: portfolios, blogs, publications and custom-built sites. A Shopify version that works through a Shopify app is in testing.

Does it slow down my site?

Pages pass through our server on the way to visitors, which adds a short delay. We're measuring this during the pilot and will publish the numbers.

What do you record about my visitors?

For each visit: the time, the page, the visitor's network address and the browser or crawler name it reported. That's what makes it possible to tell crawlers apart. We don't sell it or use it for advertising.

What does it cost?

Pilot sites are protected free while we prove the system together. Pricing for later will be simple, and pilot members will hear about it first.
